Houston Valley Ohv Area Pass
Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest
- Just west of Dalton lies the largest U.S. Forest Service OHV trail system in Georgia. This popular motorized trail system offers riding experiences for all levels. Easy trails through a forested setting, to more difficult trails with challenging hill climbs. Visitors must provide their own equipment.
- The Houston Valley OHV Area consists of a paved parking lot, loading/unloading ramp, information kiosks, vault toilets, trash cans, and picnic tables. There are three access points to the trail system from within the parking lot.

- The Houston Valley OHV Area closes after significant rain events to allow the trails to dry for several days in order to limit resource and trail damage. Be sure to call the Conasauga Ranger District before driving to the area. On weekends and at night, call 706-695-6736 ext. 2 for closure recording or visit the Houston Valley OHV Area Status page for current status. Passes purchased during the weather closures are non-refundable. Please Call before you Haul!
- 1-Day Activity Pass ($5 per operator): This is a non-refundable one day pass that can be purchased from home prior to visiting the trail system.
- 1-Day Scan and Pay Activitiy Pass ($5 per operator): Before leaving cell phone service, download the Recreation.gov app on your mobile device. Once you are at Houston Valley you will need to open the Recreation.gov app. Once the app is open you will need to press the scan function within the app. This will open the scanning function on your phone's camera. Point your camera at the QR code at Houston Valley. You will then be able to purchase a pass. You will need to repeat this process for each operator, or each operator can do it on their own device. As long as you have the Recreation.gov app, you will not need cell phone service to purchase a pass. Passess will show "Pending" until service is reached.
- Annual Pass ($50 per operator): The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest Annual OHV Pass can be purchased here at Recreation.gov or at any Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest office. This pass allows for the purchaser to ride for the entire season with a one time payment of $50.
- Motorbikes and all-terrain vehicles (no pick-ups, rails, or four-wheel drive vehicles allowed). Vehicles with more than 50" width are not allowed, as there are size limiting barriers at the trailhead. Helmets are required for motorbikes by State law. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a licensed driver. It is prohibited to possess, consume, receive or transport alcohol in the Houston Valley parking lot, trail system and related facilities.
The Houston Valley OHV Area closes during inclement weather throughout the operating season. Please call the Conasauga Ranger District at 706-695-6736 or visit Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest Recreation for the most current information about recreation sites.
In the case of a broken down piece of equipment on the trail or in the parking area: It is the responsibility of the operator to recover the vehicle. The U.S. Forest Service is not responsible for recovering broken down equipment.
All operators at the Houston Valley OHV Area are required to pay a use fee. Please be prepared to show digital pass on your mobile device or a printed copy.
Although connectivity may be limited, when using Scan and Pay a pending transaction will be visible on the app and it must always be available to show when visiting. The Recreation.gov app must already be downloaded and an account activated on your device prior to purchasing a Scan and Pay Activity Pass.
Each operator of a motorcycle or ATV must carry this pass on their person.
Passes are non-transferrable, non-refundable, not replaceable if lost or stolen, and are void if altered or reproduced.
This pass does not guarantee parking availability. For your safety, please remember that parking outside of designated areas is discouraged and visitors who park illegally may be fined and towed. This pass is valid until 11:59 PM of the date listed on the pass, and only for the date specified for this pass.
No Golden Age Passport or America the Beautiful Interagency Pass discounts are applicable. Passes are non-transferable, non-refundable, not replaceable if lost or stolen, and are void if altered or reproduced.
