The Kisatchie Ranger District manages the Sandstone Multi-Use Trail System. The trail offers a variety of recreation experiences within Kisatchie National Forest, an area actively managed to restore native ecosystems.
Visitors to the 36-mile Sandstone Trail travel through the piney woods of the Kisatchie Hills, offering spectacular views, hilly terrain, and beautiful longleaf pine. The trail consists of two connected loops that vary in distance and difficulty level.
North Loop: 16 miles
South Loop: 15 miles
Cut-Across Trail: 5 miles
The Sandstone Multiple-Use Trail system is available for OHV, motorcycle, hikers, mountain bikes, E-bikes, and horse use. The trail loops are marked with green markings. From Alexandria, take Interstate Hwy 49 to exit 119 at Derry, LA and turn left (South) onto LA Hwy 119 and travel approximately 5 miles to FH 59 (Longleaf Scenic Highway) and turn right. The access points are located in areas off of FSR 59 (Longleaf Scenic Highway).
Additional staging areas are the Cane Camp (horses only) and Corral Camp for OHV Camping. There is also trail access at the end of FSR 395.
