National Forests in North Carolina
The Dirty John Shooting Range in the National Forests in North Carolina provides hunters and sportsmen the opportunity to hone their skills with a 100-yard range with target frames set at 25 yards, 50 yards and 100 yards with six firing lanes/stations.
The outdoor firing stations are side by side and offer a covered shooting platform with shooting benches. There is a vault toilet, available parking, and picnic table available for use. This site is maintained with the help of visitors to pick up all targets, target debris, bullets, bullet casings, etc. and dispose of properly. Help us maintain a clean and safe shooting range.
The range is open from sunrise to sunset.
All visitors to the National Forest in North Carolina must display a valid pass at day use fee sites where required.
Alcohol is prohibited.
You cannot purpose your Pass on-site. There is no cell service available.
One pass is required per shooter and covers the use of Moss Knob, Panther Top, and Dirty John Shooting Range. You must enter the names for each shooter and a license plate for each vehicle that will be at the range. Passes can be downloaded to each shooters' phones, and/or printed ahead of time and carried onto the range. You can enter separate emails for each shooter, or the purchaser can forward to an email or text the pass to each shooter.
This pass is valid from sunrise to sunset of the date listed on the pass, and only for the date and person specified for this pass.
Passes are non-transferrable, non-refundable, not replaceable if lost or stolen, and are void if altered or reproduced.
No spectators allowed at shooting benches on the firing line while shooting occurs. No tracer or incendiary type ammunition allowed. No wheeled vehicles beyond concrete pad except individuals with disabilites in wheeled units.
Stationary paper targets or manufactured silhouette targets only, no bottles, cans or other breakable targets. Skeet shooting is prohibited.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult.
Pick up all targets, target debris, brass (bullets, bullet casings), etc. and dispose of properly. Help us maintain a clean and safe shooting range.
Handle your firearm with care. All fire arms must be action open and unloaded when entering and exiting the range.
No fully automatic weapons or archery.
Shoot only at the firing line, do not shoot across range.
Check with other shooters to be sure all firearms are unloaded and down before entering down range.
