Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest
Theater in the Pines is a large group campsite located along the beautiful Alpine Loop Scenic Byway in the Wasatch Mountains. The Mount Timpanogos Wilderness Area is adjacent. Visitors enjoy hiking the Aspen Grove Trail to the summit of Mount Timpanogos.
The campground can accommodate up to 150 people. Its large grassy field offers grand views of the surrounding peaks. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. A large gravel parking area is on-site.
Campground Closed For Season: Gates are locked, no facilities (bathrooms, water, trash) are available, entry is prohibited and may result in citations. Campground will reopen in May/June 2025

Always store food and trash securely to avoid attracting wildlife
-Failure to comply may result in fines up to $5,000, removal from your campsite and/or imprisonment
Remember, a fed bear is a dead bear; your actions can save lives
No water available on site; bring all water needed for your stay including drinking water
Dogs or Domestic Pets
Owners must
-Control the dog by a leash not to exceed six feet (6’) at all times
-Clean up dog feces immediately
-Limit two dogs per campsite

-Rush, threaten, or attack people/animals
-Obstruct or interfere with people, vehicles, or property
-Cause damage to vegetation, habitat, or harass wildlife
Campground Etiquette and Rules
Gates open at 7am, Gates close at 10pm
Quiet Hours are 10pm to 6am No generators after 10pm
Camping is allowed only within the designated space provided. Do not go beyond the boundaries of your site
Maximum occupancy is 8 people per single site
Reserved campsites will be held until 12pm on the day following your scheduled arrival date
Horses/Off-road vehicles are prohibited in the campground
Leave No Trace
-Put all trash in dumpsters, if provided, or properly stored in your vehicle or bear box
-Remove all personal property and trash when leaving
-Unclean campsites will be reported to the District Ranger LEO
-Leaving food/trash in an unoccupied campsite may result in a $5,000 fine
This is a 'pack it in, pack it out' facility; please bring trash bags
Cleaning fish, animals, or bathing where drinking water is supplied is strictly prohibited
Fireworks or other explosives are prohibited. Discharging of a firearm in the campground is not allowed
No fighting or boisterous behavior. Be courteous to your fellow visitor. Keep noise at a reasonable level
No amplified music is allowed in USDA Forest Service campgrounds and facilities. People come to the campgrounds for peace and quiet
Max Vehicle Length includes tow vehicle
There is a 2-night minimum stay on weekends; 3-night minimum stay on holiday weekends
The site capacity for people (150) will be strictly enforced. Additional persons above the maximum at any time (including those visiting for a meal) will be asked to leave.
Trailers/Campers and RVs
Come with water tank filled. Hooking up to spigots or the power in the restrooms, even for medical devices is strictly prohibited
SR 92 road is very narrow. Max length of vehicle and trailer longer than 30 feet is not recommended
Advance Reservations
Reservations are required and must be made at least 5 days in advance
Walk-ins/first come first serve not available for these sites
Extra Vehicle - $10 per vehicle, per day (paid on-site cash/check)
Firewood - $9 (available at Mt. Timpanogos Campground)
Please understand that camping/picnicking is an outdoor experience; therefore, we do not give refunds or credits for weather or natural conditions
Cancellations within 14 days of the arrival date will forfeit the first night use fee and a $10 cancellation fee
No-shows, early departures, or cancellations after the arrival date are not entitled to a refund
If a guest does not arrive at the campsite by check-out time the day after scheduled arrival, and does not cancel the reservation, a $20 service fee will be charged and will forfeit the first-night use fee

The campground is situated among stands of pine, fir and aspen trees at an elevation of 7,600 feet. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant and autumn leaves put on quite a show.
Cascade Springs, Deer Creek Reservoir, Tibble Fork Reservoir and the Timpanogos Cave National Monument are just a few of the surrounding attractions.
Hiking is very popular in the area. Several trails begin nearby, including the 14-mile round-trip Aspen Grove Trail, which begins next to the campground and climbs to the summit of rugged Mount Timpanogos. The 2-mile Stewart Falls Trail begins just above the campground's historic stone amphitheater.
Theater in the Pines sits along the 20-mile paved Alpine Loop Scenic Byway. It passes through alpine canyons, mountain meadows, aspen groves and pine forests, offering breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range.

From I-15, take exit 272 for 800 North toward Orem and proceed east on Highway 52 to the mouth of Provo Canyon. Go east on Highway 189 for 7 miles to Sundance Resort turnoff, Highway 92. Take Highway 92 for 6 miles. Campground will be on your left, past Sundance Resort and Aspen Grove Recreation Area.
