Fish Creek Campground
Glacier National Park
Apgar, Fish Creek, and St. Mary Campground reservations WILL NOT provide access to any vehicle reservation areas (including the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Many Glacier, and North Fork). To obtain a vehicle reservation, visit Glacier National Park Vehicle Reservations on Recreation.gov.
Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 miles (1,125 km) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty.
The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3,500 feet (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90°F (32°C), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.
All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.
The campground is large with 178 campsites. The sites are relatively spread apart and provide privacy for both RV and tent campers. Potable water is accessible in the campground, and restroom facilities have flush toilets and sinks with running water.
Notifications and Alerts
Peak season 2025 campground dates will be posted and available on a 6-month rolling basis starting December 1, 2024. Peak seasons vary by campground. Please check each campground for peak seasons and availability. Spring and fall shoulder season dates will become available for reservation in the spring of 2025 as they are winter weather dependent. Please check back then for shoulder season availability.
Need to Know
Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.
Generator Hours. Generator hours for Fish Creek Campground are 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Generators are not allowed in Loop C.
Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.
Natural Features
Fish Creek is heavily forested with plenty of shade. Some sites have views of Lake McDonald.
The park is named for its prominent glacier-carved terrain and remnant glaciers descended from the ice ages almost 10,000 years ago. Its diverse habitats are home to nearly 70 species of mammals including the grizzly bear, wolverine, gray wolf and lynx. Over 270 species of birds visit or reside in the park, including such varied species as harlequin ducks, dippers and golden eagles.
Nearby Attractions
One must-see attraction is Waterton Lakes National Park, Glacier's sister park across the Canadian-U.S. border. As the other half of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, Waterton Lakes offers great hiking, scenic boat cruises and several scenic drives all centered around the townsite of Waterton.

This facility is conveniently located in the western part of the park, nearby many day hikes, including Rocky Point Trail, which wanders through a burn area from a 2003 wildfire.
Explorers of all ages can attend nightly ranger programs at an amphitheater within the facility.

Fish Creek is located four miles (6.4 km) northwest of the west park entrance near West Glacier, Montana. Access is from U.S. Highway 2, approximately 32 miles (51 km) northeast of Kalispell, Montana.
