Facilities

Campsites are widely spaced. Parking aprons are dirt and rocky and fit a maximum trailer length of 30 feet. Amenities include campfire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, drinking water and parking for up to two vehicles.

Natural Features

Tucked in a stand of aspen, spruce and other mixed conifers, Buffalo Springs offers private, secluded campsites. At 9,000 feet altitude, the campground maintains a glowing reputation as a place for excellent mountain views.

Recreation

Picnicking and wildlife watching are also great activities. Look out for sightings of mule deer, bald eagles and chipmunks. Volleyball courts and horseshoe pits are also provided on-site.

Nearby Attractions

The nearest large fishing and boating lake is Antero Reservoir, the first man-made lake to be built on the South Platte River. The lake produces trophy class fish, including rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout.

The nearest town is Fairplay, Colorado, a historic gold mining settlement of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. The town has an open air museum that sets that helps recreate the life and times of the 19th century gold rush era.

From Fairplay, take Highway 285 south for about 12.5 miles, just 3 miles past County Road 22 turnoff. Turn right onto Forest Road 431 and continue one mile to campground.

Need to Know

  • Be bear aware; keep all food out of sight in approved containers or locked inside your vehicle and remove all food from area after eating
  • This is a high elevation facility, please use caution when traveling from lower elevatio

  • No RV hookups are available

  • Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Firewood is available to purchase on site, depending on any fire ban. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.

  • The use, sale, and possession of all forms of cannabis in the United States is illegal under federal law on federal lands.

  • Shooting of any type is prohibited in the campground
  • ATVs and off road vehicles are prohibited in the campground

  • Dogs must be on a leash or tethered at all times.

  • Reservations are available up to five days prior to arrival date. Sites not reserved five days before become ‘walk-up’ and are available on a ‘first come - first serve’ bases.

  • Check-out time is 12:00pm. Check-in time is 2:00pm

  • Two vehicles or one RV per site is included in the camping fee. $11.00 for a third vehicle. $11.00 fee for day use if not camping overnight.

  • Firewood is available for sale at host site for $10.00/bundle.
