Grass Shack Campsite #1 is located within Grass Shack Campground. This is a great campground that offers shade from large Oaks and Junipers.
This site has a bear box for food storage. It is the most shaded of the 3 campsites and has plenty of space for up to 6 backpackers. In this site the tent pads are spread out throughout the site, with 5 smaller tent pads to choose from.
One of the larger creeks-Chimenea Creek runs through and by the campground, providing water most of the year. Fires are not allowed here being in a fragile riparian ecosystem surrounded by thick grassland. This ten mile hike, from Camino Loma Alta Trail Head, climbs 2,200 feet to a campground often not affected by winter storms.
Views are exceptional to the south as you climb through and above the saguaros. This is the lower of the two campgrounds on the Arizona National Scenic Trail in Saguaro National Park.
You must camp in your assigned campsite.
