BACKPACKING CAMPSITE
The Laguna West campsites are located approximately 3.5 miles from the Basin Trailhead via the Laguna Meadows Trail (or 6.8 via the Pinnacles/Colima Trails). All Laguna West sites are located along a spur trail to the west of the main Laguna Meadows Trail. The spur is 200 yards long and ends at LW-3. Do NOT plan on finding these campsites in the dark.
The Laguna Meadows Trail is a gradual climb in elevation (1,600 feet). There are several sections of switchbacks. Views are great and the trail is usually in fine condition year-round.
The Laguna West area is open chaparral woodland. All Laguna West campsites are small, accommodating only 4 people each. All sites are secluded and located under small stands of pinyon pines for shade.
A solar-composting pit toilet is near the spur trail to sites LM-2,3,4.
This is a hike-in site. Parking is available at the Chisos Basin trailhead or the Chisos Basin Amphitheater.
Maximum 4 people, 1 tent.
Hammocks are prohibited.
Bears and other animals are frequently seen in this area. Do not leave food, or other items unattended.
There is NO water available in the Laguna Meadows/West area. The closest water is at the Basin Visitor Center spigot. Always carry adequate water for cooking, drinking, and washing (suggested 1 gallon (4 l)/person/24 hours).
No wood or ground fires permitted.
Pets are not allowed on trails in Big Bend National Park.
