- TOMALES BAY BOAT-IN INFORMATION
Boat-in sites are ONLY reachable by Boat. ALL Tomales Bay permits require use of a boat, including group sites on Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach.
Boat Launch and vehicle parking for all Boat-In campsites are located outside of the boundaries of the Point Reyes National Seashore.
A wag bag or portable toilet is required to carry out human waste for all Boat A and Boat B permit holders.
There is NO potable water on Tomales Bay for Boat-In camping- you must bring your own.
Boat-in Amentities: NONE. Except for vault toilets on Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach.
Food Storage: Raccoon- and rodent-proof food storage, such as bear canisters or Kevlar food bags are required.
Group Site Permit holders at Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach are required to camp only at the designated group site locations at Marshall or Tomales Beach.
Boat A and Boat B Permits are not assigned to specific campsite locations. Please see the Tomales Bay Boat-in Camping map for allowable camping beach locations. These permits are authorized for dispersed minimum impact camping within 75 feet of the mean high tide level at any of these select beaches along the west shore of Tomales Bay:

CAMPING PROHIBITED AREAS: Jacks Beach, Lairds Landing, Fruit Tree Beach, Pelican Point, Hog Island, Duck Island, and Duck Cove
BOAT IN CAMPING PERMITS: You do NOT need to check in at the Bear Valley Visitor Center. Your email confirmation with reservation number is your permit. Keep this resrevation number with you while camping for proof of valid reservation.
BEACH FIRE PERMITS: If fire danger allows, beach fire permits may be obtained at the Bear Valley Visitor Center or printed from home. Please keep this permit with you at all times near any active beach fire.
BOAT IN- LAUNCHING POINTS AND PARKING FOR CAMPING ON TOMALES BAY: There are NO launch points located in the National Seashore for Boat In Camping. Public launch sites where vehicles may be parked overnight for a fee are Tomales Bay Resort in Inverness on the west side of Tomales Bay and the Miller Boat Launch north of Marshall on the east side. Your Point Reyes Boat In camping permit does NOT include launch fees or overnight parking. You will be launching and parking your vehicle outside of the boundaries of Point Reyes National Seashore.
NO DOGS OR OTHER PETS: Dogs and other pets are not allowed on Tomales bay Boat in camping beaches. See our website for dog friendly beaches and trails within Point Reyes National Seashore.
BOAT-IN WEATHER AND SAFETY: Typically, Tomales Bay wind is calm in the mornings with increasing winds from the northwest in the afternoon. Crossing Tomales Bay during Small Craft Advisories issued by the National Weather Service can be hazardous. You are responsible for checking safe weather and tide conditions. You should be an experienced kayaker or be going with an experienced group. ALWAYS WEAR A LIFE JACKET.
