Coffee Bay Shelter is located on the edge of the Suwannee Canal on the Orange Trail about 6 miles from SCRA.
Coffee Bay Shelter is a dual use shelter meaning that motor boaters, day use paddlers and other wilderness campers are permitted to visit as long as they return to SCRA or make it to their wilderness campsite by the designated off the water time. You must, graciously, share the platform. Do not set up your full camp until 1.5 hours before off the water time. Please welcome and leave some space for others to enjoy the platform.
Wood and charcoal fires are ONLY permitted at Mixons Hammock, Floyds Island, and Canal Run. Please refer to the refuge map for locations and distances between stops. Keep trails and platforms free of litter; you must pack out ALL garbage generated from your trip.
The refuge DOES NOT recommend booking trips that require more than 15 miles of paddling in one day. Permit holders take full responsibility of knowing the distance between overnight stops. Click here to review recommended itineraries before proceeding with your reservation.
