Located on the Pink Trail in Grand Prairie, Monkey Lake is located about 8 miles from the Suwannee Canal Recreation Area. This platform sits on the edge of Monkey Lake backed up to a scrub shrub habitat. Be sure to take the time to paddle past the lake to Buzzards Roost. This wide-open lake provides great wildlife viewing and fishing opportunities as well as a beautiful night sky.
Monkey Lake is a dual use shelter meaning that day-use paddlers and motor boaters are permitted to visit as long as they return to SCRA by the designated off the water time. You must, graciously, share the platform with day-users. Do not set up your full camp until 1.5 hours before off the water time. Please welcome and leave some space for day-users to enjoy the platform.
NO FIRES ALLOWED. Please refer to the refuge map for additional information and Know Before You Go tips. Keep trails and platforms free of litter; you must pack out ALL garbage generated from your trip.
Permit holders take full responsibility of knowing the distance between overnight stops.
