This floating platform is located in Mizell Prairie on the yellow trail. Only three miles from the boat ramp at the Suwannee Canal Recreation Area (SCRA), this location is great for less experienced paddlers and/or families with children. Miles can easily be added by paddling through Chesser Priaire to the Tater Rake Run before heading to the campsite. With a 360 degree view of the prairie, there may be amazing opportunities for stargazing and viewing the sunrise and sunset.
Cedar Hammock is a dual use shelter meaning that day-use paddlers are permitted to visit as long as they return to SCRA by the designated off the water time. You must, graciously, share the platform with day-users. Do not set up your full camp until 1.5 hours before off the water time. Please welcome and leave some space for day-users to enjoy the platform.
Wood and charcoal fires are ONLY permitted at Mixons Hammock, Floyds Island, and Canal Run. Please refer to the refuge map for locations and distances between stops. Keep trails and platforms free of litter; you must pack out ALL garbage generated from your trip.
The refuge DOES NOT recommend booking trips that require more than 15 miles of paddling in one day. Permit holders take full responsibility of knowing the distance between overnight stops. Click here to review recommended itineraries before proceeding with your reservation.
