The stairs on this structure are long and very steep. Please use caution when ascending and descending the lookout tower. Good idea to close the steel grate hatch door when occupying the tower so as not to fall through it accidentally. The lock that secures the lookout door hatch can be tricky. Set the combination to the correct code, and squeeze the lock shut and it will pop open! Have the district phone number to call if you have difficulties. 541-825-3100. The facility uses liquid propane for heat, cooking and lights and a small refrigerator. Please read the instructions carefully before using any of these appliances. Familiarize yourself with the locations of the shutoff valves in case of a gas leak emergency. Also be aware that the elevation of this facility can make it predisposed to snow events. Check with the Tiller Ranger district if the forecast calls for snow in Tiller Oregon. Renters are advised to bring cleaning supplies to clean interior surfaces upon arrival and departure. The Forest Service will provide cleaning supplies but cannot guarantee their availability in the case they have been used or taken by previous occupants. Renters assume responsibility for cleaning surfaces to reduce the risk of potential COVID infection. If unwilling or unable to use cleaning supplies, renters can avoid going to the rental and submit for a full refund.
Closed every Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. for cleaning.
