Need to Know
- Alaska cabin reservations can only be changed once. If you need to modify your reservation a second time,it must be cancelled and then re-booked by calling 1-877-444-6777.*Effective November 17, 2003 to assure fairness for everyone.*
Open fires must be in a fire ring, collect dead/down wood only.
Cabin is primitive, no amenities except an outhouse.
Stream or lake water must be boiled or treated for drinking.
Cabin is public use shelter from 10am-5pm daily.
DIRECTIONS: Access by trail from mi. 28 Glacier Hwy, North of Juneau, then
1 mi. east on unmarked road at south end of Herbert River Bridge. Trailhead
is at the end of the unmarked road on bank of Herbert River, 3 miles by
trail to cabin on east shore of Windfall Lake. Alternate trail to cabin is
7 miles long and starts at the end of Mountain Creek Road. - Restrictions: Snow vehicles allowed only when there is 12 inches or
more of snow. 2 day stay limit.
Activities: Hiking, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, berry
picking.
Pretty lake setting, spruce-hemlock forest, black and brown bear, fish,
waterfowl. Year round access. Swans in spring and fall.
- Windfall Lake Cabin is currently heated by propane.
