Need to Know
- The Vogel Lake Cabin is a large, one story rustic log cabin built in the early 1940's as a hunting and fishing cabin. Located on the south end of Vogel Lake, this cabin offers seclusion, wildlife viewing, and good fishing. The boat provided at the cabin gives anglers excellent opportunities to catch rainbow trout. Wildlife includes moose, black and brown bears, and wolves. Hunting is allowed for these species in designated seasons. In the winter there is snowshoeing, cross-county skiing, and snowmachining. The cabin contains two bunk beds, a table with benches, countertop for food preparation, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, broom, shovel, water bucket, fire extinguisher, rowboat with oars and personal flotation devices, established campfire ring, picnic table, and an outhouse. Primary access to the cabin is by float plane, ski plane, and snowmachine. Refer to USGS map Kenai D-2. GPS coordinates: Latitude: 60.988617, Longitude: -150.434498.
- The seclusion of this cabin necessitates being prepared to handle any emergency situation. Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of your trip. Even when the Refuge is open to snowmachines, Miller Creek ice thickness and overflow conditions make access hazardous and unpredictable. Be familiar with ADF&G and Refuge specific hunting and fishing regulations. Use of the Refuge-provided boat is at your own risk. Users must provide a U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation device for each passenger transported on boats. Bringing a personal cooking stove is recommended. Carry in potable water or boil surface water 5 minutes before drinking. Pack out your trash.
