Overview

The Boone Tavern Hotel of Berea College, built in 1909 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 1994 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America.

After hosting several hundred guests in her home, Nellie Frost, first lady of Berea College, insisted on building a guest home for future visitors; hence, the idea of Boone Tavern began. Her vision became a reality in 1909. Today, this beautiful historic hotel with graceful white columns and airy verandas rests among the vibrant galleries, cafйs, shops, and studios of Berea, the Arts and Crafts capital of Kentucky. Based on Berea College core values, an $11.3 million restoration in 2009 led to the first LEED Gold Certified hotel in Kentucky. Each welcoming guestroom includes Berea College student-handcrafted furniture and bedding as well as modern amenities and up-to-date technology. The hotel's award-winning restaurant serves Kentucky's famous spoonbread.
