Valles Caldera National Preserve Backcountry Vehicle Timed Entry
Provides access for one vehicle to backcountry route of Valles Caldera National Preserve. The average time spent along the drive is 3-1/2 hours. Plan to be back at the entrance gate before the park's closure time.
Your confirmation email will have your gate combination. Remember to bring this combination with you as you will need it to continue into the backcountry. If you forget your combination, you can stop by a visitor facility and show your backcountry vehicle pass to a ranger. They will be happy to look up your combination.
Use of the pass to enter the backcountry is valid during a 6-hour window starting at the specified time.
You will need to get out of your vehicle to unlock and re-lock the backcountry gate. If you need assistance, please ask a ranger at the entrance station or call in advance at 575-829-4100 ext 3.
All vehicles must exit the park prior to the closing of the main entrance gate.
No pets are allows in the backcountry, including inside vehicles.
Purchase of a separate park fishing permit and New Mexico fishing license is required to fish within the park.
No overnight camping allowed.
