Gateway National Recreation Area
Spanning 27,000 acres from Sandy Hook in New Jersey to Breezy Point in New York City, Gateway National Recreation Area is both the gateway from the ocean into New York Harbor, and the gateway to the National Park Service for millions of visitors every year. Gateway offers green spaces and beaches alongside historic structures and cultural landscapes.
Sandy Hook is a barrier beach located at the northern end of the New Jersey Shore. Its location at the entrance to New York Harbor assured Sandy Hook's importance for coastal and harbor defense. During the summer, visitors enjoy swimming and strolling along the Sandy Hook beaches as well discovering as natural resources and historic sites, including America's oldest lighthouse and historic coastal batteries. Lifeguards are on duty daily begining the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Need to Know
- Daily parking fees are in effect/required from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm daily the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.
- Please NOTE:The advanced purchase of the daily pass doesn't guarantee entry at any specific timeframe. If the park is closed due to being full, you will need to wait until the park reopens to enter.
- Valid on a single, private (non-commercial) vehicle. Oversized vehicles (over 20 feet in length) include vehicles with trailers and extended bike racks.
- Senior or Access card holders are required to show their Interagency Senior or Access card when entering the fee plaza.
- Printed copy or digital version of the pass is required to be scanned for validation prior to entering the fee area. Printed copy is preffered to be dispalayed on your dashboard for proof of payment.
- Purchasing this pass does not provide special or faster entry into the park.

- Rates are charged per vehicle – Daily 8:00 am -6:00 pm/
- Private (non-commercial) vehicle 20 feet and less: $20 per day or $100 per season
- Oversized vehicle over 20 feet: $50 per day or $200 per season [Oversized vehicles (over 20 feet in length) include vehicles with trailers and extended bike racks].
- 50% discounts are available to visitors who have an Interagency Senior or Access pass. The Senior/Access Interagency pass discount must be requested as a refund request through the customers Recreation.gov account. Please include your Senior or Access Pass number when submitting the refund request.The ID and Senior/Access Interagency card is required for all discounted passes.

- Printed copy of the reservation is preferred to be displayed on vehicle dashboard while parked in the parking lot.
- Parking outside of designated areas is prohibited and visitors who park illegally may be fined and towed.
- Swim only in designated swimming areas and when lifeguards are present.
- No pets are permitted on ocean beaches March 15 – Sept 15.
- Alcohol is prohibited in the park, except by separate permit.
- Adhere to posted speed limits.
- Daily parking fees are in effect 8:00 am - 6:00 pm daily. Visitors parking in a designated fee area are required to pay the fee during those hours regardless of when they enter the area

Booking Windows
Sandy Hook Daily Parking:
- Tickets for Sandy Hook Daily Parking will become available 14 days in advance of the tour date at 8 a.m. ET.
Sandy Hook Seasonal Parking:
- Tickets for Sandy Hook Seasonal Parking will be made available on April 16th, 2024, at 10AM EST. Regardless of purchase date or listed entry date, ticket is valid from May 25th until the end of the 2024 season.
Changes and Cancellations
Sandy Hook Daily Parking:
- Private (non-commercial) vehicle 20 feet and less: $20/day
- Oversized vehicle over 20 feet: $50/day, [Oversized vehicles (over 20 feet in length) include vehicles with trailers and extended bike racks].
- Customers may cancel until 7:59 am Eastern Time (ET) the morning of their reservation. Reservations cancelled by 7:59 am ET will receive a full refund minus a $2 service fee. The $2 per reservation service fee is nonrefundable in all circumstances.
- 50% discounts are available to visitors who have an Interagency Senior or Access pass. The Senior/Access Interagency pass discount must be requested as a refund request through the customers Recreation.gov account. - Private (non-commercial) vehicle 20 feet and less: $100/season

- No refund for cancellations. Refund requests for extenuating circumstances can be requested through Recreation.gov.
- 50% discounts are available to visitors who have a Senior or Access Interagency card. ID and Senior/Access Interagency card is required for all discounted passes.
