Sapphire Point Overlook

- Sapphire Point Overlook sits between Keystone and Breckenridge on Swan Mountain Road, at an elevation of 9,500 feet. The overlook offers a stunning view of Dillon Reservoir, hemmed in by the Gore and Tenmile mountain ranges. Sapphire Point is a day-use area that can be reserved for three-hour blocks for private gatherings.
- This is a non-exclusive day-use area, able to accommodate up to 30 people for small events. Although the site may be reserved, all visitors have access to the site.
Notifications and Alerts
ATTENTION: New event user rules are in place at Sapphire Point Overlook. Refer to the “Need to Know” section before making a reservation. The Dillon Ranger District will be making upgrades to the trail, overlook, and parking area in the future. Intermittent site closures will occur to accommodate these upgrades.
ATTENTION: Site construction is planned for September 2025 through mid November 2025, reservations for Sapphire Point Overlook will not be available on the Recreation.gov Sapphire Point Overlook webpage for group reservations. The Dillon Ranger District will perform trail work, reconstruction, and maintenance on the overlook sites during this time which will greatly improve the user experience. Please check back on the Sapphire Point Overlook webpage for any updates.
ATTENTION: Sapphire Point will be closed to all human entry starting on June 2nd, 2025 to June 20, 2025 to facilitate renovations to the parking lot including cleaning, sealing, new striping, signage, designated event parking area, no parking areas and updated ingress/egress to the lot from the Swan Mountain Road. Please anticipate future Sapphire Point closures during the late summer and fall months of 2025 to facilitate trail and overlook reconstruction work. If you are hoping to book the site for an event in 2025 after July 30 2025 through mid November 2025, please reach out to the Dillon Ranger District at 970-468-5400 for the most current information. This site will be updated as additional information is available.

Location and Public Access: The event reservation site is at the West overlook (overlook with rock wall). The site MUST remain open and unobstructed to the public at all times. A reservation does not grant the user the exsclusive use of this site.
SAPPHIRE POINT IS A NON-EXCLUSIVE USE SITE. Access to all parts of the trail and overlooks MUST remain open and unobstructed to the public at all times. A reservation does not grant the user the exsclusive use of this site.
Maximum Group Size: Reserved event group sizes are limited to no more than 30 individuals.
Reservation Confirmation: Reservation confirmation from Recreation.gov, either printed or displayed digitally, must be in the possession of someone at the site during use.
Parking: Reserved events will be limited to two (2) dedicated parking spaces. If more than two event parking spaces are needed, event reservation holder may use a multi-passenger vehicle to “shuttle” event guests to and from Sapphire Point. Parking of the multi-passenger vehicle outside the two designated spaces is prohibited.
- Multi-passenger vehicle shall use the loading and unloading zone, parking is prohibited.
- Each of the two designated parking spaces can accommodate a vehicle up to 20 feet in length.
- Multi-passenger vehicle shall be coordinated by the event reservation holder.
- Beyond the two dedicated parking spaces, no additional parking is authorized for the event reservation holder or attendees.
- Reservation confirmation letter from Recreation.gov shall be displayed on the dashboard of the two vehicles in the two designated parking spaces.
Event Guidelines:
- All decorations must be free-standing, natural, and removed immediately post event.
- No open flames are permitted.
- Food or beverages are not permitted.
- Ground must remain undisturbed; stakes and poles are prohibited. Bringing in chairs is not allowed at Sapphire Point.
- Releasing or distributing seeds, flowers, rice, animals or other items is prohibited.
- Only acoustic non-amplified music that cannot be heard from more than 150 feet away is allowed.
- The trail to the wedding site is not maintained in winter so wedding attendees need to dress for the weather and don appropriate footwear.
